Greece Shines at the World Travel Awards

Six Greek tourism companies and 18 hotels receive recognition at a European and local level.

The World Travel Awards (WTA) are rightly considered an Oscar for the tourism industry. The annual event aims to recognize, reward and celebrate excellence across all sectors of the international travel and tourism industry. The founder and president of the WTA, Graham E. Cooke, travels 320 days a year all around the world to discover the latest travel trends.

Over 5,000 tourism organizations have been nominated for over 50 award ceremonies held around the world since 1993. The prizes are awarded on a global, regional and local level after a voting process that takes one year in which experts from the hospitality industry as well as the traveling public participate.

This year, Greece received six distinctions regionally and another 18 locally in a ceremony held on September 4, 2016 at the Forte Village Resort in Sardinia. Ultimate worldwide winners for this year will be announced at the final gala later this year.

The Greek companies and brands which excelled on a European level are:

AEGEAN (Europe’s Leading Regional Airline)
HotelBrain (Greece’s Leading Hotel Management Company)
Grand Resort Lagonissi (Europe’s Leading Luxury Resort)
Elounda Beach Hotel & Villas (Europe’s Leading Resort Villas)
Elounda Bay Palace (Europe’s Leading Seafront Resort)
Porto Zante Villas & Spa (Europe’s Leading Villa Resort)
