The Spetses Classic Yacht Regatta took place for the sixth year with the participation of 70 yachts. The most beautiful sailing boats from around the world were an exquisite sight to behold as they glided around the Saronic Islands from June 30 through to July 3 under the aegis of the Yacht Club of Greece and the Municipality of Spetses with the support of the Yacht Club of Spetses and the elegant Poseidon Grand Hotel.

Competition soared, with a 20 percent increase in the number of yachts that came to Greece specifically to participate in the event. New arrivals included the Puritan and Skylark, constructed in 1930 and 1937 respectively. Glaramara and Baccara were two other yachts that stood out for their performance, achieving the third and first positions respectively.

The awards ceremony took place at the Bouboulina Museum, dedicated to Laskarina Bouboulina, a war heroine of the Greek War of Independence. International Sailing Federation (ISAF) President Carlo Croce was present during the ceremony, an indication of the importance of the event.

“The Spetses Classic Yacht Regatta holds the values supported by the Yacht Club of Greece,” said Alexandros Papadogonas, President of the Yacht Club. The continuous growth and success of this race, which has now established itself in the Mediterranean, shows the hard work and our attention on the promotion of sailing, as well as on the establishment of sea tourism.”

A special moment in the awards was that of Gold Sponsor that was given to the Lascaris Foundation.
