The Wine Stories of Canava Avantis

Discover the history of wine at the newly reopened Canava Avantis.

Santorini’s Assyrtiko variety has, over the years, gained recognition and acclaim both inside and outside Greece. It was this grape variety which caught the attention of a well-known winemaking couple from Evia, Apostoles and Lenga Mountricha. With a wealth of knowledge and several exquisit wines under their belts, they traveled to Messaria, Santorini

In the long tradition of winemaking, where grapes were once tread with bare feet, and wines were matured in underground caves,in the old Canava of George Argyros family, just below of Argyros Mansion the story of yesterday is revived today.

Discover the 150 year old Canava that has reopened its doors to the public after so many years and under the guidance of the Avantis Estate, to bring to you the story of how their wines came to be.

Canava Avantis invites you to live the experience through, the aromas, taste and history of another era that have left an indelible signature on the air and the aura of the establishment. Learn about our wines and how they are made, through the ages until today. A glass of wine that encapsulates a story is Canava Avantis’ gift to you.

Round off your visit with a trip to the Argyros Mansion, an impressive 19th century mansion restored in all its glory.
