Arrivals on Santorini and Mykonos Break Records in June

Islands experience a busy season, as more tourists arrive at regional airports this June than in 2019.


The number of June arrivals at Greece’s two most famous island destinations was even higher than in the record-breaking year of 2019.

According to information regarding passenger traffic at the 14 regional airports in Greece operated by Fraport, which was recently presented by moneyreview.gr, arrivals at Santorini’s airport exceeded 2019 levels by as much as 21%.

 

Overall, the 14 regional airports recorded over 4.6 million passenger arrivals, which is 3.4% more than in 2019. Besides Santorini, other airports that saw especially high numbers of tourist arrivals in June were the Aktion Airport, which serves popular destinations such as Lefkada, Preveza and Parga and received 13% more passengers this year; Corfu Airport, which received 12.5% more arrivals; and the airport on Mykonos, which beat their own numbers from 2019 with 10.2% more arrivals. The airports of Kavala and Thessaloniki, meanwhile, had fewer arrivals than in 2019.

Looking at the numbers for the whole first six-month period of 2022, Fraport’s airports in Greece have received over 10 million passengers, which is just 5.7% lower than in 2019.
