Published under the evocative title “The Top Ten Summer Destinations for 2025: Where the Sea Still Holds Its Magic,” the annual list celebrates ten European regions that offer stunning beaches for relaxation.
According to one of the most popular German blogs focusing on thematic activities and adventure tourism, “Ios connects different types of travelers and: exciting party life by night and quiet island bliss with relaxing sports, art, and the finest cuisine by day.” Highlights include the new Gaitis-Simossi Museum, exotic beaches, iconic landmarks such as the Tomb of Homer, a flourishing arts scene, and gastronomy that rivals the best in the Aegean. According to the article, Ios continues to enchant “young people of all ages.”

Joining Ios on the list are Italy’s Salento Peninsula, Portugal’s Alentejo region, Sardinia’s white sand dunes in Arbatax, the French city of Biarritz, Cyprus, the Italian Riviera near Ancona, Sweden’s High Coast, and the Danish North Sea.
Further cementing its rising status, Ios also ranked among the top ten islands most preferred by international tourists in 2024, based on Ferryhopper’s passenger traffic data.
“The diversity and contrasts that define the Ios experience are what make our island so special for travelers of all ages. This is the narrative we’re sharing internationally through our strategic initiatives. Ios is one of the rare destinations with repeat visitors who return for decades, discovering different sides of the island each time,” said Antonis Mettos, Chairman of the Tourism Committee of the Municipality of Iites.
This recognition comes on the heels of a targeted promotional effort that included a scheduled meeting at the Berlin International Tourism Exhibition and a follow-up press trip, part of an ongoing partnership between the municipality and tourism marketing experts.
