Shot In Athens, Sebastian Stan’s “Monday” Premieres in the US

A new romantic drama, an American-British-Greek production directed by Argyris Papadimitropoulos (of "Suntan" fame), premieres in US cinemas on April 16.

After his captivating Greek drama “Suntan,” which stole the limelight in 2016, director Argyris Papadimitropoulos has slipped behind the camera once again for “Monday,” which opens today, April 16, in American cinemas.

Starring Sebastian Stan, best known as the “Winter Soldier” from the Marvel universe, and the Irish actress Denise Gough (from the film “Colette”), the plot unfolds in territory familiar to Papadimitropoulos fans: a steamy Greek summer.

A passionate love affair ignites between Mickey (Stan), who has lived in Greece for years, and American tourist Chloe (Gough), a relationship that begins on the island of Antiparos and continues as they play house together in the Athenian neighborhood of Kypseli. Problems arise as yet another weekend party leads to the inevitable Monday that must follow …

The shooting was completed in 2018 in Athens and on Antiparos. The film had its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival in September, 2020. Deeply Athenian, frantic at times and extremely summery, “Monday” is one film that Greek movie-goers are looking forward to watching in the nation’s open-air cinemas this summer.
