Every year at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center on the Athens Riviera, thousands of people gather for the week-long Summer Nostos Festival.

This year, due to the banning of large gatherings as a safety measure against the spread of the coronavirus, the festival was originally cancelled. A new announcement from the foundation comes with happy news: the festival is going online.

The original program for this year’s festival included performance art and visual art shows by internationally acclaimed performers, film screenings, plenty of activities for kids, and concerts by international stars such as Nigerian Burna Boy, Canadian Caribou, and British Casbah Club, as well as popular Greek artists such as Elena Paparizou, Melisses and Michalis Hatzigiannis.

While the final lineup of events for the online edition of the festival, which has been titled “Summer Nostos Festival: RetroFuture Edition”, hasn’t been announced yet, the organizers are promising lots of music and performances by Greek and international artists as usual, plus highlights from previous festivals, DJ sets, and – in place of the usual charitable “SNF RUN: Running into the Future” which takes place as part of the festival every Olympic Day (June 23) – a “virtual run”, where participants will run on their own, yet connected.

“It’s going to be a weird summer, so let’s get together to make it good-weird,” the organizers write.

More details about the online festival will be posted soon here.
