The latest Hotels.com® Hotel Price Index™)  includes Greece on its list of top picks for American travelers interested in spending their tax refund on experiences rather than tangible goods.

Greece, in particular represents a great choice for Americans, bearing in mind that the U.S. Dollar has gone from strength to strength in 2015. The average tax return in the United States is $2,800, according to Kansas-City based tax service provider H&R Block.

Taking into account the tax refund that Americans have at their disposal, affordable travel offers were gathered so that Americans can stretch their dollar further without breaking the budget.

The top 10 destinations with the best-value 5-star hotels per night for U.S. Travelers in 2015:

Athens was included on the list of cities where Americans could stay with $150 a night or less at a four-star hotel. Other destinations included in the report for the same price and same star rating were Bali, Bangkok, Beijing, Berlin, Bogota, Buenos Aires, Frankfurt, Istanbul, Las Vegas, Madrid, Panama City and Phuket.
