Greek Islands and Hotels Win Travel + Leisure’s World’s Best Awards

Greece has some of the best islands, hotel resorts and destination spas in the world, according to the readers of New York-based Travel + Leisure magazine.

Favored by many an international traveler, Greece’s destinations and hotels frequently place highly at the Travel + Leisure’s annual World’s Best Awards, where the scores are based on a survey developed by the editors of the magazine, which is completed by travel-savvy readers asked to rate the nominees. This year Greece claimed winners in three categories.

Overall, Greece was the most represented country in the Best Islands in the World category, for which readers rate islands based on natural attractions, beaches, activities, sights, restaurants, food, people, friendliness, and value for money.

Santorini, a regular on the list, took 14th place. Paros placed 11th, Crete 7th, and Milos 4th. With a score of 90.5 in the survey, Milos was edged out only by the tropical paradises of Bali (90.76), Palawan (90.87) and Sri Lanka (92.12). In the European islands category, Greece dominated: Milos topped the list, followed by Crete in 2nd place, and Paros and Santorini in 4th and 5th place respectively.

While Milos, Crete and Paros ranked higher in the island category, Santorini was the island that stood out in the Top Resorts in Europe, and the International Destination Spas categories. In the latter, one-year-old Andronis Concept Wellness Resort in Imerovigli took 1st place, with an amazing score of 98.18.

In the Top Resorts in Europe category, Greece again claimed more places than any other country, including the first place. Specifically, five Santorini resorts were featured in the top ten; Hotel chain Andronis claimed two more winners, with Andronis Boutique Hotel placing as number 10 on the list, and Andronis Luxury Suites as number 8. Katikies Hotel placed 6th and Grace Hotel Santorini placed 2nd, while the big winner was another one-year old: influencer hot-spot Canaves Oia Epitome.

According to Travel + Leisure’s website, readers who voted for the winner Canaves Oia Epitome praised it for its luxurious interior, which nods to the island’s volcanic topography, as well as its big outdoor living areas and privacy.

With its 97.58 score, Canaves Oia Epitome also placed 17th in the same category internationally, which features awe-inspiring luxury hotels in 33 countries. Grace Hotel Santorini also made this list, placing 41st, along with Katikies, on 78th place. The 1st place in this category went to The Leela Palace Udaipur in Rajasthan, India. Runner-up was The Lodge & Spa at Brush Creek Ranch in Saratoga, Wyoming.
