Thessaloniki Holocaust Museum Plans Moving Ahead

The Regional Governor of Central Macedonia said that the regional government may help fund the project in part through the use of European funds.

The progress of the project to create a Holocaust museum in western Thessaloniki was discussed earlier this week by Regional Governor of Central Macedonia Apostolos Tzitzikostas, Mayor Konstantinos Zervos and the president of the Central Board of Jewish Communities in Greece, David Saltiel.

“The Holocaust Museum is moving forward and we are jointly exploring the possibilities of financing and the contribution of the Region of Central Macedonia with European resources from the new National Strategic Reference Framework,” said Tzitzikostas.

The regional governor noted that many of the pending issues are being resolved so that construction can begin, “in order to put into practice a great project, intertwined with the history of Thessaloniki.”
