As the nights draw in, school half-term holidays at the end of October are a chance to grab one last getaway before those of us in the Northern Hemisphere hunker down for winter.
In a recent article, the UK’s Guardian newspaper published a list of the top 10 half-term holidays in Europe this Fall. From the Eastern Algarve in Portugal to the Swiss Alps, rural Romania and Lake Bled in Slovenia, the list has something for everyone: city breaks, activity holidays, countryside retreats and seaside destinations to soak up some warm autumn sunshine.
Representing Greece on the list, the island of Rhodes is described as “sunbaked” and “hassle-free,” boasting miles of sandy beaches, year-round sunshine, and October averages of 24C. Free from the intense heat and busy crowds of the summer, the island in the Dodecanese is a superb option for those seeking a relaxing Mediterranean getaway, with plenty of options for sightseeing and nature walks, including the serene Valley of Butterflies.
