The French website generationvoyage.fr has named Greece the ideal destination for kitesurfing enthusiasts in 2025.
“Many French travelers choose the Greek islands for their beaches and the moments of relaxation they offer, but not so much for sports activities. However, the time has come to debunk that myth, as the Greek seas offer fantastic spots for kitesurfing. The Aegean wind is particularly strong in summer, especially in the afternoon, creating ideal conditions for these sports. Kitesurfers have the opportunity to discover a sun-drenched paradise with the wind as a reliable ‘ally,’” the feature begins.
The popular travel site goes on to recommend six ideal Greek islands for kitesurfing across the Cyclades, Ionian, and Dodecanese archipelagos, placing Naxos at the top of the list, as reported by the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (AMNA).
According to generationvoyage.fr: “Naxos is globally recognized as one of the best Greek islands for kitesurfing. Much of the island’s western coastline offers ideal conditions that kitesurfing enthusiasts are quick to take advantage of. The most famous beach for both kitesurfing and windsurfing is Mikri Vigla, known for its unique weather conditions. The Lagoon, Aghios Georgios Beach, and Plaka are also excellent options for the sport. Summer is a great season for water sports on the island, as strong winds blow daily, from noon until late afternoon. It’s a great way to combine morning visits to Naxos’s many impressive cultural and historical sites with kitesurfing later in the day.”
Interest is growing from the Municipality of Naxos and Small Cyclades in promoting the island to international markets, with a focus on experiences including marine tourism, outdoor activities, history, culture, and gastronomy.
As Deputy Mayor of Tourism for Naxos and Small Cyclades, Vangelis Katsaras, adds: “In recent years, the need to enrich holidays with experiential activities has emerged as the dominant trend. In Naxos, no one is treated as a mass tourist. The island of Ariadne offers the perfect balance of relaxation, vacationing, recreation, rejuvenation, and intellectual cultivation – all through high‑quality services and reasonable prices, in an enchanting natural environment.”
