Moschofilero grapes, also known as fileri
Successful and highly popular on account of its unique aromas (white-flesh and citrus fruits, rose and brisk notes of exotic lychee), the pride of Mantinia produces enjoyable wines with a light body, relatively low alcohol content, fruity palate and refreshing acidity. Moschofilero grapes are grown in almost every part of Greece.
However, in the Peloponnese and more specifically on the plateau of Arcadia, in the region of Mantinia – known as the Alsace of Greece – the variety reaches its finest expression. There, the slow – because of the climate – ripening of the grapes and one of the latest harvests in the country (usually in early October), endow Moschofilero with its distinctive aroma and indisputable quality.
Moschofilero is a wonderful food-friendly wine and pairs well with greek seafood and cosmopolitan cuisine alike.
Moschofilero’s light body makes it an ideal aperitif. However, it is also an exceptional accompaniment to a wide range of food: green salads, croquettes, bite-sized savory pies, fresh white cheeses, pasta with pesto or other light sauces, small fried fish, squid, stuffed cabbage leaves. In addition, it is the perfect match for Greek dishes featuring fresh herbs (basil, mint, fennel, etc.) but also more exotic flavors (such as shrimps with ginger), as well as fusion creations of fish and white meat.
Moschofilero belongs in one spot, the lofty plateau of Mantinia in the north-central Peloponnese.
