Canaves Oia Resort: Luxury Nestled in Rock

Unrivaled luxury, impeccable services and breathtaking views at one of Europe’s premier resorts.

LOCATION

The resort is located on the cliff side of the caldera in the picturesque village of Oia on the northwest tip of Santorini.

BACKGROUND

The Canaves Oia resort, which consists of the Canaves Oia Hotel, Suites and one private Villa, takes its name from the traditional rock-hewn wineries known as ‘canaves,’ and is the result of the vision of owner Mr. Chaidemenos, who back in 1983 decided to invest in a series of 17th century ‘canaves’ by transforming them into luxurious accommodation.

Those ancient wineries are nowadays a contemporary designer-chic resort, offering unrivalled luxury, impeccable services and breathtaking views of the caldera and the Aegean Sea, making for a sought-after retreat for a wide range of travellers from all over the world. No wonder Canaves Oia was chosen by the readers of the US Condé Nast Traveller magazine as Europe’s premier resort for 2015.

FEATURES

Modern and minimal, the boutique Canaves Oia five star Hotel offers 18 suites featuring private verandas and open-air dining areas, while some also come with private plunge pools. The hotel also features an infinity pool with sun deck for luxurious lounging under the Greek sun. The 26 recently renovated Canaves Oia Suites are located 100 meters from the hotel, providing spacious and elegant living areas, private verandas with open-air dining areas and plunge pools.

The property also features a pool with sun deck, a gym and fitness center with top of the range equipment, a ‘Spa With a View’ offering a variety of treatments for holistic relaxation and rejuvenation, yoga facilities and an elevator providing full access to all levels of the island. The autonomous villa, located between the hotel and the suites, offers three bedrooms with king size beds that can be split into twin beds, making it ideal for families or groups of friends. It features en-suite bathrooms, a spacious separate living room with a separate dining area and a fully equipped kitchen, private verandas and its own infinity pool. Guests of the resort can make use of all pools available in the complex as well as the gym, spa and yoga facilities.

FOOD & DRINK

The Infinity Pool Bar Restaurant at the top level of the Canaves Oia Hotel, available for hotel guests only, offers an all day menu of Greek and Mediterranean dishes and makes for a fine choice for casual lunch, snacks or delicious signature cocktails. The hotel also offers its guests unique wine tasting experiences at its private terraces with local wines and selected wine and spirits of fine international grape varieties. The Pool Side Restaurant of the Canaves Oia Suites is open all day, for suite guests only, offering a sumptuous breakfast from the buffet or a’la carte menu, lunch with the finest Greek and Mediterranean dishes inspired from authentic traditional specialties and romantic candlelit dinners with a sophisticated culinary choice of fresh fish or lobster. The restaurant also serves snacks and delicious cocktails all hours of the day until the pool closes. Guests of the suites are welcome to descend the steps to the property’s Wine Cellar, explore their selected wines and embark on a wine tasting journey through the delicate taste of handpicked local wines.

For more romantic encounters, the Petra Gourmet Restaurant, open to all guests, features only three tables and provides absolute privacy to couples who wish to celebrate a special occasion or just escape from it all while indulging in the creations of executive chef Andreas Evangelatos, who fuses the flavors and aromas of Mediterranean cuisine with authentic Santorinian recipes. Another romantic alternative is the Panorama Balcony Experience offering couples the opportunity to experience selected gourmet creations from the resort’s restaurants in a secluded and intimate private terrace under starlit skies.

Finally, for guests who don’t feel like leaving the cozy luxury of their suites, in room dining is also an option on the private balconies with a private waiter serving exceptional Greek/Mediterranean dishes from an extensive menu.
