With the second highest number of Blue Flag-awarded beaches in the world, and new health guidelines in place, Greece is the place to swim in 2020.
The water quality at the country's beaches is almost perfect, according the new report from the European Commission and the European Environment Agency.
A total of 534 Blue Flags were awarded to Greek beaches, marinas and sustainable tourism boating operations this year.
The words "Greek holiday" are coming to mean much more than sun, sea and ouzo, with the country well-placed to cater to nature-loving adventurers.
It is hoped that the initiative will be emulated by many other islands, helping put Greek tourism on a more sustainable footing.
