Archaeological Sites Change Visiting Hours Due to Heat

Those hoping for some sightseeing should venture out in the morning or late afternoon. Hats, sunblock and water are essential.

The Ministry of Culture and Sports has announced (link in Greek) changes to the opening hours of open-air archeological sites starting today and until at least Thursday, in order to protect visitors and staff from the extreme temperatures which are set to continue throughout the week.

To avoid the worst heat, the archeological sites will close between 12:00 and 17:00

The current heatwave is one of the longest and hottest since 1987, and caution is advised when venturing outside, especially during the hottest hours of the day.

The government has also asked that citizens limit their use of electricity, as power outages might occur as a result of air conditioning overuse.
