According to local reports, production has moved to the suburb of Menidi in Acharnes, into one of the Greek capital’s oldest film studios, where crews staged a dramatic artificial storm sequence. A boat mounted on a motion platform, combined with high-pressure water systems, recreated the effect of rough seas – marking one of the film’s most technically ambitious moments yet.

Pitt, who arrived in Greece around a month ago, has already filmed across a range of locations, turning parts of the country into a sprawling international set. Shooting began on the Saronic island of Hydra, where the picturesque harbor was transformed with wind machines and rain effects to simulate extreme weather conditions.

From there, production moved to Halkida in the north, where the historic railway station was adapted for key scenes, before heading to central Athens. In Kotzia Square, the Oscar-winning actor briefly greeted fans gathered to catch a glimpse of the star. More recently, filming also took place in Nea Makri, on the east coast of Attica, including scenes near the local Nautical Club.

The film, directed by Edward Berger – best known for his Academy Award-winning works “All Quiet on the Western Front” (2022) and “Conclave” (2024) – adapts “The Riders,” a psychological drama following a father’s search across Europe after his wife’s mysterious disappearance.

For Greek audiences, Pitt’s presence carries an added layer of familiarity: he famously portrayed Achilles in “Troy” (2004), Wolfgang Petersen’s epic retelling of the Trojan War – making his current adventures in Greece something of a symbolic homecoming.

While security around the Menidi set has been tight, locals and fans have gathered nearby in hopes of spotting Pitt, adding a touch of Hollywood buzz to the Athenian suburbs.

The production’s presence comes just as the dust settles on this year’s Academy Awards in Los Angeles – offering a timely reminder that, for now at least, a slice of global cinema is unfolding much closer to home.
