Lists of top travel destinations often feel a little out of touch; after all, our planet hides countless wonders that rarely get the recognition they deserve. But Condé Nast Traveler proves an exception, celebrating the diversity of modern travel. In its newly published Best Places to Go in 2026 list, Tanzania meets Brussels and Utah, while Greece proudly claims a special place among the global highlights.
This year’s list brings together famous locales undergoing a new renaissance with lesser-known gems, capturing the ever-changing natural and urban landscapes that define travel today. For the 12th consecutive year, Condé Nast Traveler approaches tourism through a modern lens that prioritizes sustainability and thoughtful development.

Following the spotlight cast by the filming of Christopher Nolan’s Odyssey in the Peloponnese over the past two years, the Greek peninsula rightfully stands out as one of the top destinations for 2026. The region is celebrated not only for its natural beauty and history but also for its sophisticated approach to hospitality. The magazine hails the peninsula as a land made for cinematic storytelling, mountain adventures, and Homeric legends.
Today, Messinia has been redefined by Costa Navarino by Costa Navarino and the sustainable vision behind its four luxury resorts. Michelin-starred chefs, world-class restaurants, and a curated market experience are reshaping the essence of Greek hospitality. Natural wonders – from the turquoise arc of Voidokilia Beach and the flamingos of Gialova to the Cave of Nestor – coexist with historical treasures such as the twin castles of Methoni and Pylos, offering a complete sensory journey.

History is woven into every corner of the Peloponnese. The Mycenaean civilization, with its remarkable tholos tombs, invites visitors on immersive guided tours and journeys through the region’s ancient past. The 2015 discovery of a Mycenaean warrior’s tomb sparked a renewed dialogue between Western and ancient Greek cultures. The tomb and its treasures, currently in Los Angeles as part of their international tour, will return – along with other artifacts – to the recently renovated Archaeological Museum of Messinia by the end of next year.
Spring 2026 will also see the completion of a new network of hiking trails, cementing the region’s reputation as a destination for outdoor adventures. These routes will allow visitors to sample traditional local products while exploring UNESCO World Heritage sites such as Mystras. Nearby, the acclaimed Euphoria Retreat will host a major Wellness Festival in June 2026, inspired by the ancient Greek philosophy of eudaimonia: the art of living well.
It is this seamless harmony of tradition and modern luxury that earned the Peloponnese its place among Condé Nast Traveler’s top destinations for 2026; a region where history, nature, and refined hospitality converge to offer an unforgettable journey.
