Navy Special Forces Defuse Underwater WWII-Era Bombs

Divers from the Hellenic Navy's elite Underwater Demolitions Command (DYK) defuse WWII-era bombs off the coast of southern Greece.


In a recent announcement, members of the elite Underwater Demolition Command (DYK) of the Hellenic Navy have successfully defused a number WWII-era explosives discovered in the bay surrounding the Peloponnesian city of Monemvasia.

The operation to defuse and neutralize the 80 year-old ordnance took place from April 8 to April 23, and included the retrieval of the explosives, transportation to a safe location, and their destruction through controlled explosions.
