Rules for Travel to Greece Loosened: Here’s What You Need

Travelers with a EU Digital COVID Certificate no longer need to test themselves for the coronavirus in order to enter Greece.

Travel regulations in place for entry to Greece changed today. Travelers from EU member states and Schengen countries, as well as from 33 non-EU countries, who can present a valid EU Digital COVID Certificate, no longer need to test themselves for the coronavirus before traveling to Greece.

The certificate, issued from any of the countries who have joined the EU Digital COVID Certificate system, contains either a vaccination certificate, a certificate of recovery, or a certificate of negative test result (negative PCR test performed up to 72 hours before scheduled arrival or negative Rapid Antigen test result performed up to 24 hours before scheduled arrival). In other words, negative test results are still enough in order to enter Greece, though not necessary for travelers from these countries who are vaccinated or have recently recovered from the coronavirus.

The 33 non-EU countries which have joined the EU Digital Covid Certificate system are Albania, Andorra, Armenia, Cabo Verde, El Salvador, Faroe Islands, Georgia, Israel, Iceland, Lebanon, Liechtenstein, Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro, Morocco, New Zealand, North Macedonia, Norway, Panama, San Marino, Serbia, Singapore, Switzerland, Chinese Taipei, Thailand, Tunisia, Togo, Turkey, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, Uruguay, and the Vatican.

Travelers arriving from countries which have yet to join the system must still display a negative test (PCR test performed up to 72 hours before scheduled arrival or Rapid Antigen performed up to 24 hours before the scheduled arrival), regardless of their vaccination status or proof of recovery.

All visitors traveling to Greece are advised to remember that, in addition to the EU Digital COVID Certificate, they’re also required to fill in a Passenger Locator Form (PLF), providing information about previous stays and travels, and the address of the hotel/residence where you will be staying in Greece (for the first 24 hours at least). The PLF must be completed no later than 23:59 of the day before arriving in Greece, in order to receive a unique QR code, required to travel, in time. A link to the QR code is sent via email on the day of arrival, while an initial confirmation email, received upon submission of the form, can be used by those who are boarding their initial flights the day before arrival. For families traveling together, one PLF is acceptable for the whole family.

You can find and fill in a PLF form here. If you are visiting Greece and have been tested negative against COVID, you can issue EU Digital COVID Certificate using your PLF registration data here.

The use of face masks is mandatory at arrivals and departures inside airports.

The documents referred to in this article are mandatory for travelers entering the country over 5 years old.
