Thessaloniki to Ring in the New Year with Massive Firework Show

Visitors to Thessaloniki are in for a treat on New Year's Eve when the sky over Aristotelous Square will light up with thousands of fireworks.

Thessaloniki is to welcome 2018 with a grand firework display consisting of over 5,000 individual fireworks exploding at a height of 120 meters. The spectacle will begin one minute before midnight and will light up the night sky over the city for a full 10 minutes.

The fireworks will be launched at sea in front of Aristotelous Square from two barges anchored off the coast.

“Our aim is to organize a phantasmagoric event, at least on par with last year’s which will attract both residents and many visitors to our city, offering them an unforgettable experience,” the leadership of the Thessaloniki Chamber of Commerce and Industry (TCCI) wrote in a letter to the Thessaloniki mayor, Yiannis Boutaris. As it did last year, the TCCI is covering the cost of the fireworks and the use of the barges from which they will be launched.
