The region's winemakers welcome visitors on the occasion of European Wine Tourism Day
Wine producers in Northern Greece are gearing up to serve their impressive array of wine varieties to happy customers to mark the fourth European Day of Wine Tourism which takes place on November 13.
Visitors and connoisseurs will get the chance to sample an eclectic mix of wines from Greek cellars and vineyards to showcase the best side of Greece’s fast-growing wine tourism and expertise in wine production.
A total of 18 wineries along the wine routes of northern Greece are taking part in the event that allows visitors to tour the wineries from 11:00 until 17:00 and taste older vintages, as well as the freshest ones collected in 2016.
The European Day of Wine Tourism, launched in 2009, invites wine lovers every second Sunday in November to a series of events aimed at the promotion of European wine territories, organized and jointly promoted by each city or town in their territory in efforts to stimulate wine tourism.
Participating wineries belong to the European network of wine cities (RECEVIN) or other wine tourism networks. Wine tourism in Greece has been gaining attention and praise in recent years thanks to the country’s revival of specialized and rare grape varieties to produce authentically Greek wines. The first Wine Tourism Congress took place in Santorini in October this year.
