Glass-Floored Halkidiki Church Opens to Public

The church of Aghios Stefanos in the village of Arnaia will present educational tours for visitors of all ages throughout August.

The church of Aghios Stefanos Arnaia will present its “underground secrets” during educational visits that are open to a public of all ages throughout the summer, in visits organized by the Ephorate of Antiquities of Halkidiki and Mount Athos.

The history of excavations that have unearthed at least four strata of architecture, starting from the early Christian years and reaching up to the present, post-Byzantine church, will be exhibited, along with projections and archive material.

Visitation dates are on August 4, 5, 11, 12, 18 and 19 at 12.30.

The program lasts a total of 45 minutes and interested parties may register up to the day before the visit by calling (+30) 2310.285.163 or by emailing [email protected]. There is also the possibility, upon request, to conduct the program in English or French for foreign visitors.
