Two Weeks in August
Ahead of filming for the popular Netflix series Emily in Paris in Mykonos, Greek destinations are already appearing prominently on screens worldwide. In recent years, international productions have increasingly turned to Greece as a narrative setting – sometimes even when filming takes place elsewhere.

One such example is the new British ITV drama thriller Two Weeks in August, an eight-part series set to premiere on Cosmote TV’s on-demand platform on Sunday, May 24, just 24 hours after its UK debut. Although the story mentions Greece as a holiday escape, the series was actually filmed in Malta. Still, it joins a growing list of productions that present Greece as a setting for both leisure and intrigue.
Created by the team behind the award-winning I May Destroy You, Two Weeks in August follows Zoe, a mother, wife, daughter, and friend who has spent much of her life suppressing her own needs in order to care for those around her. Hoping a trip to Greece with old friends will offer a long-overdue reset, Zoe envisions relaxation, reconnection, and joy. But even in paradise, she cannot escape herself. What begins with a spontaneous kiss soon takes a darker turn, as rising tensions and buried conflicts transform the holiday into a struggle for emotional survival, testing every relationship. The cast includes Jessica Raine, Damien Molony, Nicholas Pinnock, Antonia Thomas, Leila Farzad, Hugh Skinner, Dolly Wells, and Tom Goodman-Hill.
The Assassin
Another series filmed largely in Greece is the six-part thriller The Assassin, starring Keeley Hawes – known for Bodyguard, The Durrells and Line of Duty – alongside Freddie Highmore of The Good Doctor. Available on Cosmote TV, the series was filmed along the northeastern coast of Attica. The story begins on a remote Greek island, where retired contract killer Julie lives in complete isolation, cut off from the outside world. Her estranged son Edward unexpectedly arrives from England, and long-buried tensions immediately resurface. When Julie’s violent past catches up with her, the pair are forced to flee together.
Meanwhile, the Amazon Prime Video series Malice was filmed on the island of Paros. Directed by Mike Barker and Leonora Lonsdale, it stars Jack Whitehall, David Duchovny and Carice van Houten. The story follows the Tanner family as they enjoy a luxurious holiday on a sun-soaked Greek island, accompanied by Adam, a tutor hired to teach the children. But Adam harbors hidden motives and gradually undermines the family, driven by a desire for revenge rooted in his past.
