Gastronomos Food Festival Returns for Its Second Year
Experience the very best of Greek…
Greek cheeses dominated TasteAtlas’ latest global rankings, with Graviera Naxou sharing the top spot for the world’s best hard cheese alongside Parmigiano Reggiano.
The semi-hard cheese from the Cycladic island of Naxos received a score of 4.6, while several other Greek varieties also ranked in the top 10, including Graviera Kritis, Kefalograviera and Metsovone. Other Greek cheeses featured in the top 50 included San Michali, Ladotyri Mytilinis, Graviera Agrafon and Kefalotyri.
TasteAtlas described Graviera Naxou as a century-old cheese traditionally produced from cow’s milk or blends that include sheep’s and goat’s milk. The platform also highlighted its mild flavor and its connection to local livestock raised on native herbs.
The distinction comes as the Union of Agricultural Cooperatives of Naxos reports stable dairy production despite climate pressures, rising production costs and water shortages. Graviera Naxou is currently exported to 18 countries, with producers planning to expand distribution to 20 countries from early next year.
