Greece Is Gastronomy Issue To Be Released This Weekend

The latest print issue of Greece Is explores the extraordinary diversity of Greek food, its deep history, top quality ingredients and exciting future.

Whether you’ve spent summer days sunning yourself on Cycladic beaches, or hiked the mountain trails of Epirus, or embarked on an in-depth exploration of the unparalleled diversity of Crete, you will know that a key part of any Greek experience is the food, the glorious food.

Sampling great local cuisine is more than just a delicious way to fuel up for a day full of activities, or to unwind as the sun sets together with a glass of wine. It is a cultural experience, with each dish a distillation of the environment, history and traditions of any given destination. The strong Italian influence and fishing tradition of the Ionian Islands is evident in their sumptuous seafood dishes, for example, while across Greece the lean years of generations past led to a great inventiveness in the use of ingredients, giving us everything from smoked cheeses and cured meats to pies made with dozens of types of wild greens.

Greece Is has always sought to highlight the gastronomical offerings of the destinations we cover, from the traditional products and dishes to the top restaurants pushing the culinary boundaries.

Now the diverse cuisine of Greece itself takes center stage with the release of the first ever Greece Is Gastronomy issue. We delve, over 159 pages, into the vast mosaic that is Greek cuisine: its ancient history and traditions; a region by region breakdown of local products and specialties; today’s top chefs who are taking Greek food in new directions; the best restaurants, wines and high quality products, and much more.

Greece Is Gastronomy will be available together with the New York Times International Edition – Kathimerini English Edition on the weekend of 13-14 October across Greece.

Alternatively from 15/10 the print magazine will be available for free at the Kathimerini Shop (47 Panepistimiou – inside the Arsakeiou Stoa, Athens, tel. +30 210.331.6825) as well as at locations around Greece including:
